Project: Workshop on gender equality

The aim of this workshop is to raise the awareness among participants on gender inequalities and change the perspective about both men and women role in society.
The participants will be youth between 14-18 years old (male and female). On this workshop we will try together to discover the main gender issues.
Gender equality is not only crucial in itself  but is a fundamental human rights and a question of social justice. Furthermore, gender equality is essential for growth and poverty reduction.
Equality between men and women exists when both sexes are able to share equally in the distribution of power and influence, have equal opportunities for financial independence through work or through setting up businesses, enjoy equal access to education and the opportunity to develop personal ambitions, interests and talents, share responsibility for the home and children.

  • Sophie and Kriska - Volunteers from France
So we can start by reminding the title of our common project: Together for a sustainable reality.
We came to work on issues related with sustainable development, understood under its different aspects, environmental, social and economical.
From the begining we manage a weekly French club, Table française; this workshop is open to beginers who are interested in basic knowledge of the french language.
We also organized a training of trainers in environmental health, actually we invited 2 trainers in SiQA. About 12 people have been trained at this occasion.
The aim was to spread knowledge and tools to raise awareness about these issues (water management, wastes management, personal hygiene, and biodiversity), because the participants of the training are now able to hold workshops and different exercises about these issues.
We also took part in a team project of volunteers from GYE (an other NGO in Rustavi) and SiQA in March. The Moving Gallery consisted in organizing a place and time for local artists to exhibit and perform their different works. The idea was also to occupy a place that was laid aside: we found the Bravo Theatre in Rustavi, which is partly not used. After a big work of preparing the event and promotion, we opened the Moving Gallery for 3 days of painting and pictures exhibition, concerts, theatre shows, circus shows.. any kind of art was welcome, generally. At this occasion, we displayed a "trombinoscope": during the weeks before, we interviewed some local volunteers of SiQA and made of it short portraits, to introduce volunteers and their motivation to be volunteer. We also opened an"on process" exhibition, called "I have a dream", where everyone in the Moving Gallery could write his dream and display it.
The latest project consisted in organizing a music event in the streets of Rustavi, inspired by the Fête de la Musique that occurs each June, 21st. MuSIQuchA was also a team project led by local and European volunteers of SiQA. The event let a place to local musicians, from music schools and independent bands, to perform in an open area, Megobroba street (in front of the Rustaveli Kinotheatre and on the fountain on the other side of the street).
These 2 cultural projects, we link them to the social aspect of sustainable development: find local resources to raise cultural awareness in the city of Rustavi, that lacks a special place for the youngsters to gather and spend their free time. They were also designed to give an access to citizens to culture and to artists to exhibit their work, as far as they were both free entrance and open to any participant (professionals and amateurs).
Here is it; now we work on different new projects, like organizing film+debate sessions occasionally.
